人教版高中英语必修四第二单元Unit 5阅读课教学设计 ———Unit 5 Working the land A pioneer for all people 【Analysis of the teaching contents】 The reading lesson is selected from Book 4 Unit 5. It talks about the great scientist--Yuan Longping, mainly about his indentity, education, research, achievements, qualities and his dreams. By reading the passage, students could have a deeper understanding of Dr. Yuan’s life choices and it is helpful to for students to follow the role model to shoulder the responsibility to society and seek for noble careers. 【Analysis of the students】 As senior students, they have some background information about agriculture and Dr. Yuan but their abilities of analyzing the text and extracting information efficiently are still improved. At present, students’ values and outlook on life is being formed so learning this passage is quite educational and helpful. 【Teaching objectives】 1)Language competence Through reading, students will enable to understand the main idea of the reading material and to use the target language to talk about Dr. Yuan and hybrid rice development 2)Cultural awareness students can develop a sense of social responsibility; 3)Thinking ability Students will use English to think independently and critically 4)Learning ability Students will be willing to take part in the class activities and cooperate with other group members . 【Key and Difficult points】 1.Key points Help students to apply reading strategies to get a good understanding of the text and then form a structural knowledge of how to describe a person. 2.Difficult points Guide students to use the target language to talk about Dr. Yuan and the process of developing hybrid rice. 【Teaching methods】 Task-based language teaching method Communicative language teaching method 【Teaching procedures】 Step 1 lead in (6 mins) At the beginning of the class, I will show some pictures about great people we have learned and a question--when it comes to rice, who comes to your mind first Then discuss how much do them know about Dr. Yuan. The teacher will give corresponding comments on students’ answers and show the topic of this lesson. Justification: The pictures about great people we have learned can activate students’ original background knowledge. The questions can arouse students’ interest and lead in today’s topic naturally. Step 2 pre-reading (3mins) Students are asked to read the title together and then encouraged to share what they want to know from the passage, based on the title and picture. (Justification: to arouse students’ curiosity about the passage as well as train their ability of prediction.) Step 3 while-reading (20mins) Activity 1 fast reading Students are asked to read the passage quickly to find the topic sentence of each paragraph, especially paying attention to the transitional words.
